President Timeline

2018 - 2020

Aldrich Gonsalves

  • Eco campaigns – Planned and helped with construction of the Broadway Campus Wellbeing Gardening Project., attended the Time Is Now Lobby and spoke to Ian Austin in regards to improving the environment in Dudley, took park in the Big Climate Fightback and planted 50 trees in Dudley college grounds. 

  • Actively conducted the ‘Reusable coffee cup’ campaign.

  • Set up in collaboration with Dudley Health Champion a Mental Health Ambassadors programme.

  • Organised and attended Dudley Youth Ambassadors monthly meetings.

  • Assisted VP, Katie Oakley in campaigning for the Period Poverty "Red Box Project" - Students are now able to access FREE sanitary projects at all campuses.​​

  • Ran a weekly Breakfast club for students.

2016 - 2018

Dan Wood

  • Key lead for the college chosen charity nominations

  • Arranged the first Dudley College abseil charity event in support of The Georgina Unit, Russells Hall Hospital

  • Helped students with coffee morning fundraising events in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support

  • Organised charity bag packs in aid of Save the Children

  • Lobbied the college for the free school meals cashless card system

  • Planned and ran a Dudley College refectory ‘Stir Mystery Shopper’ campaign with the aim for quality, reasonably priced and good range of food/drinks to be available for students

  • Worked towards the Quality Students’ Union 2019 award

  • Proposed and launched the Black Country Students’ Union with the insight to unite students across the Black Country

  • Conducted a Hate Crime survey and put in place the ‘Third Party Reporting Centre’  to encourage reporting of any act of hate

  • Conducted a ‘Love Your Community’  campaign and ‘Love Your Campus’ survey

2014 - 2016

Thierno Diallo

  • Campaigned against ESOL course cuts and organised the ‘All I want for Xmas campaign’

  • Launched the first (now annual) Dudley’s Got Talent Show

  • Founded the weekly Football Club

  • Lobbied the college to ensure students that are entitled to free meals actually receive them

  • Organised and ran the weekly Faith, Belief and Non-Belief group

  • Worked with ‘Make Your Mark’ youth councillors to determine the top four issues affecting Dudley students; ‘living wage’, ‘mental health’, ‘transport’ and ‘a curriculum for life’. These issues were subsequently discussed in the House of Commons

  • Supported students with the Christmas Fayre fundraising and  the Jabczynski Memorial Cup Football Tournament in support  of the White House Cancer Support

  • Campaigned for LGBT awareness

  • Re-established the cross college green committee - Arranged the Green impact activity week which included 50 FREE public transport taster tickets and the opportunity for 10 staff members to sign up for cycle training

  • Participated with the college sustainability discussions

  • Arranged for the refurbish of Broadway campus Prayer room with modest modifications

2012 - 2014

Kelly Russell

  • Health and Wellbeing campaigner:

  • Worked extensively with local organisations

  • An active member of the National Union of Students Welfare Committee expressing concerns nationally

  • Lobbied local MPs regarding welfare issues affecting students such as the Educational Maintenance Allowance, 24+ loan system, Bedroom Tax and collated apprenticeship case studies

  • Debated Black Country Youth Unemployment and how it continues to affect students in Dudley

  • Worked in collaboration with staff to achieve the Green Impact Bronze Award for Dudley Students’ Union

  • Campaigned for local road safety – Puffin crossing now installed  

  • Organised charity ‘Dance a thon’ and ‘Wax from Hell’ events in support  of Dudley White House Cancer Support

  • Coordinated the ongoing and much appreciated ‘Food Bank’ appeal

  • Arranged the Dudley Young Carers Xmas ‘Shoe box’ appeal

  • Supported the Register to Vote campaign and organised the first (now annual) Dudley Live Politics event where local MPs and councillors were invited to take questions from a live audience of young people from local schools and colleges

2010 - 2012

Kim Hughes

NUS: Winner of FE Students’ Union of the Year Award 2011 and

President of the Year Award 2011

Learning and Skills Improvement Service ‘LSIS’: Winner of

  • Most Improved Provider of the Year Award 2012

  • Nominated for ‘Hearing Unheard Voices Campaign’ award, St James’ Palace, London

  • Attended National Demos

  • Lobbied Parliament on issues affecting students

  • Key lead for the ‘Save Our Educational Maintenance Allowance’ campaigns and organised student petitions

  • Gave students a national voice

2009 - 2010
